With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Judge William A. “Bill” Roe on Friday January 2, 2026. He was born in Morgan City, Louisiana on March 8, 1954.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother Alrena R. Caudle, his father Charles H. Roe, his sister and best friend Gaydell R. Cantrell (Craig), sister Charlene Gaddis (Jerry), and niece Sally Claire Cantrell.
Bill is survived by his 3 children William A. “Billy”, Jr (Brandi), Christen and Jennifer; 6 grandchildren Bailey, Cameron, Ethan, Eva, Egan, and JJ; 2 brothers Patrick Roe and Robert Roe; nieces Allison, Abby, and Mary; and nephews Jerry, Alex, Greg, Bert (Jean), Charles (Mary), Grant, Kyle and Evan.
He also leaves behind his partner Zona Wainwright, her three children Natalie (Ryan), Madelyn (Tim) and Ethan, and 4 grandchildren Emma, Claire, Randi and Hayes.
Bill Graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans and received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola College of Law.
He served the Parish of Plaquemines for 30 years first, in the Public Defender’s Office and then retired as Judge of the 25th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was widely known for his larger-than-life personality and quick wit on the bench. His Judicial staff of Division B was significant and special to him during that time.
In keeping with the family's wishes, no public services will be held . A private memorial will be held at a later time and the family kindly asks that Bill’s memory be honored through acts of kindness or service.
The family is thankful and grateful to all that have reached out with thoughts, prayers and condolences and are especially grateful to Serenity Funeral Home for their discretion and support during this difficult time.
