Vernon Salazar Obituary

Vernon Salazar, a resident of Saint Rose, LA, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born on December 15, 1941 in Gallup, New Mexico to the late Jose’ and Romanita Salazar.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jude “Judy” Terminie Salazar, his children: Gregory Michael Salazar (Erin), Gina Salazar Duplessis (William), and Daniel Joseph Salazar, his grandchildren: Jason Gregory Hardimon, Brooke Salazar Hutchinson (Brandon), Alexis Michelle Salazar, Raven Salazar O’Neil (Cameron), Aaron Joseph Salazar, Olivia Abigail Salazar, and Carter Daniel Salazar, his great grandchildren: Baylor Thomas Hutchinson and Beaux Tanner Hutchinson.

Vernon is also survived by his siblings: Manuel Salazar (Judy), Henry Salazar (Mary Lou), Rudy Salazar (Lorraine), Emily Gomez Esquivel (Bob), Rosalie Colon (Joe), Lalo Salazar (Betty), Jim Salazar (Angela), and the late Consuelo Salazar along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Vernon was an army veteran who served during the time of the Bay of Pigs Invasion. For his service, he earned a Marksmanship Qualification Badge as a Rifle Sharpshooter and the Good Conduct Medal for carrying out three or more consecutive years of honorable and faithful service. He achieved the rank of E-4 Specialist with a military occupational specialty in basic army administration.

Relatives and friends are invited to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Rd, Destrehan, LA 70047 on Thursday, August 5, 2021 - Visitation from 10:00 AM until Noon. Service will begin at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vernon’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
