Thomas G. Whatley, 75 died unexpectedly October 29, 2023 at his home in Lacombe, LA. He was born May 9, 1948, in New Orleans, LA, the son of Thomas Whatley and Bessie Rodrigue Whatley.
Following graduation from high school, he worked at the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad. Deciding to follow his passion, he went to culinary school, and began his career as a chef. He continued to create new recipes, as well as cooking family favorites. He was a loyal supporter of several organizations including Wounded Warriors, the Red Cross, St. Jude Hospital, WYES, WWOZ and donating blood. He enjoyed listening to jazz and gospel music. He would also make time to attend the Jazz Fest and view the exhibits of interest at NOMA. At home, he could be found watching westerns, Columbo, and Murder She Wrote on television. Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes were some of his favorite literatures. He loved sitting outside watching hummingbirds and listening to his favorite sports teams on the radio with his dog Bella by his side.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Linda Whatley. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Whatley Casillas, and her husband Ralph, both of Abita Springs, LA, Emily Mangipano, of Lacombe, LA; one grandchild, Shelby Casillas; his brother Stanley Whatley, of Buffalo, NY; his sister Pamala Hartman and her husband Malcolm of Belle Chasse, LA; his sister Nancy Talley and her husband Pat, of Abita Springs, LA.
At Thomas’s request, there will be no public services, but friends and family can leave remembrances on the Serenity Funeral Homes’s website. Because of his lifetime support of many organizations, donations can also be made to those in his name.
