Roy Gibliant Obituary

Roy James Gibliant, the Patriarch of our family, passed away peacefully surrounded by his adoring family on July 15, 2024, after a courageous battle of liver cancer. He is survived by his children; Dennis J. Gibliant (Jennifer) and Joy M. Fiorella (Calcie);  his grandchildren, Ryan Henriquez, Lexie Henriquez, Mason Gibliant, Conner Gibliant, Nicolas Gibliant, and CJ Fiorella; great grandchildren, Lilly, Violet, Anna Rose, and Addie; and his loyal dog, Molly. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Rita Marcell (Rick) and Gaynel Centanni (Roy), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Roy is preceded in death by the love of his life, Marie “Lovey” Gibliant, his late parents, Raymond and Rita Gibliant, and his sister, Rae Ann Smith. Roy, better known as PaPa, had a life dedicated to “protect & serve”. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He served for 2 years in the Navy, traveling to numerous overseas countries and ports to protect our nation. After his naval service, he dedicated 30 years to the New Orleans Police Department. Upon graduating from the academy, he was initially assigned to the 3rd District. He then served in the S.O.D. Mounted Unit, followed by the K-9 Unit. His career continued in the Carpenter Shop and the Crime Lab, culminating in a promotion to Sergeant. He retired from the 1st District in 1994 and then dedicated 17 years to U.S. Marshal Federal Building Security. After his distinguished career in law enforcement, he fully retired to his beloved home in Poplarville. There, he enjoyed cutting his acres of grass and attending to his blueberry orchard. Once, his beloved "Lovey Marie" fell ill with Lewy Body disease, he lovingly cared for her at home around the clock for over seven years until her passing, embodying the true spirit of a protector. Roy had a remarkable talent with horses and could effortlessly train any horse to follow his commands. He owned 3 horses, Candy, Crutches, and Spirit, who he rode on throughout his time in mounted. When he transferred to the K-9 unit, his best friend and partner was Raider (Rottweiler), who was honored with his own retirement badge from the NOPD. Roy later bred Rottweilers, many of which became K-9 dogs. He also bred various birds, including the peacocks that once roamed City Park. He was a pillar of loyalty, deeply loved and admired by his family, extended family, and a wide circle of friends who cherished his unwavering dedication and kindness. He always had jokes and was up for a party, especially his infamous October fests in the country (at his home in Poplarville). He will be fiercely missed by all. He will be laid to rest at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA with Naval and NOPD honor guards on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Poplarville, where all are invited to come together and honor his memory. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, LA.
