Roger Felter, 51, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away on August 27, 2026. He was born in Pineville, Louisiana, on April 19, 1975.

Roger spent 22 years working as an electrician before becoming an instructor of electrical and instrumentation, a position he held for another 10 years. Teaching came naturally to him. He possessed an engineer’s mind—the kind of mind that was always figuring out how something worked, how it could work better, or how to fix it when it didn’t. And Roger could fix just about anything.

If there was no tool for the job, Roger would make one. If there was no easy way to accomplish something, he would invent one. He had a remarkable ability to look at what was in front of him and see possibilities that other people simply couldn’t. He could make something out of nothing and somehow find a way to make even the simplest tasks easier.

That same unconventional mind was reflected in his sense of humor, which was just as uniquely his as everything else about him. Roger had a way of seeing the world that few people could replicate. His jokes, observations, and timing were unmistakably Roger.

Above all else, Roger loved his two sons, Wesley and Jack, and his life partner, Amanda Yellott. He often called his boys his “dichotomy”—two different sons, each reflecting a different part of the man he was. They were an enormous part of his heart and his life, and his love for them was immeasurable. Amanda shared Roger’s life, his laughter, his challenges, and the countless ordinary moments that became extraordinary simply because they were shared.

Roger loved deeply, and his family and friends held a special place in his heart. He cherished the people who knew him best.  Family, to Roger, was not simply something you were born into. Some of it was chosen—and those people were every bit as important to him. He nurtured those relationships, treasured the people he loved, and carried them with him throughout his life.

Roger was, quite simply, one of the smartest men many of us will ever know. But his greatest legacy will not be measured by how much he knew or by how many things he could fix. It will be measured by the people he loved, the people he taught, the laughter he left behind, and the indelible mark he made on the lives around him.

“Shout as loud as you possibly can. Make your voice bounce off planets. Don’t just leave a mark, leave a DENT. Be everything you ever wanted to be. Don’t let others rule your life. Live it like you have ten seconds left, but nine are already spent.”

That was Roger. He didn’t simply leave a mark. He left a dent. And the world will never be quite the same without him.

Roger is survived by his life partner, Amanda Yellott; his sons, Wesley Felter and Jack Felter; his mother, Diann McCann; his brothers, Brian (Angela) Gray, Bruce Gray, and Walter Clark; his sister, Barbara Ladner (Brandon); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Barbara McCann, and his brother, Bill Gray.
