Nicholas "Nick" Wetzel

Nicholas “Nick” Wetzel, 71, of Mandeville, La., passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family.  He was a native of San Francisco, Ca. and a resident of Mandeville, La.  Nick graduated from Fresno State University with a Masters Degree in Petroleum.  He was a member of St. Timothy on the Northshore Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.  Nick retired from an illustrious career from the Bureau of Interior.  During his service he excelled under multiple agencies, had numerous publications in his field of expertise, briefed congress multiple times, contributed to a published text book and even gave a private tour for the then acting president, George H. Bush, of a facility.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, rocks and minerals, fireworks and the overindulgence of his nine grandchildren.  Nick loved being with his wife at the beach with his feet in the sand.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Robert and Aurora Vartikian Wetzel.

Nick is survived by his Wife of 38 Years, Nancy Pearson-Wetzel of Mandeville, La., Daughter, Chantel Dean and husband Kevin of Covington, La., Son, Cameron Wetzel and wife Megan of Covington, La., Brother, Bobby Wetzel of Murphys, Ca., Sister, Suzy Babayan of Seattle, Wa., 9 Grandchildren, Kensley, Odin, Kadence, Remi, Kendall, Naomi, Kasen, Jude, Kolette and numerous family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 with the family receiving friends at 10:00 AM with Services at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy on the Northshore, 355 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, La. 70471.  Rev. James Mitchell will officiate.  A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy on the Northshore Church, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, La. 70471.

Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
