Merlin J Beals

Merlin “Muggsy” James Beals Sr., son of the late Joseph Clarence Beals and Florence Vogt Beals, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 5th, 2016, at the age of 80. He was born July 9th, 1936 in New Orleans, lived in New Orleans, Chalmette and was a resident of Covington for the last 12 years. Beloved husband of Rosalie Rumore Beals for 60 years. Father of Rosalie Beals Dicristina (Angelo), Rhonda Beals Perez and Merlin “Muggsy” James Beals Jr. Proud grandfather of Michael Broussard, Christopher Broussard, Preston Perez (Rachel), Blake Perez (Elizabeth), Russell Perez, Kaitlyn Perez, Savanna Beals, Frankie Dicristina, Carlo Dicristina and Mariella Dicristina. Muggsy was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, Alfarette, Edward, Harold, June, Thelma, Gloria, George, Calvin, Geraldine. He will also be missed by many nephews, nieces and friends.\r\nMuggsy’s love of sports showed through coaching baseball, football and basketball to hundreds of children at Vista Park in Chalmette. His relaxation was Lake Ponchartrain, where his family had a camp called Shangri-la; they fished, crabbed, water skied and took many boat rides. After moving to Covington, Muggsy’s daily routine included taking a ride to the lakefront. His greatest happiness was being surrounded by family and friends. Muggsy was a plumber through Local 60 where he retired from. He then worked for St. Bernard Parish as a master plumber where he also retired.
