Mary Belle Hayes Burns passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Abita Springs, LA on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at the age of 92 years. She was born in Gadsden, Marshall County, Alabama to Flora Mohan and Ollie M. Hayes.
Mary lived, and spent most of her career working in Montgomery, AL for the Alabama State Department of Education in the Payroll and Retirement Department, where she oversaw payroll for all of the teachers on the school board. She was loved by everyone she worked with and was a friend to all.
Mary leaves behind one son, Joel David Burns, and one Daughter, Mary Katherine Singleton, along with her grandchildren; Jay Burns, Stephanie Singleton, and Shannon Loper.
There will be no Memorial Service held, as Mary wanted to be cremated, and it is a long way for any family or friends to travel. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Mary’s name to the charitable trust of your choice.
