Margaret (“Margie”) Frances Bell Valliant passed away January 23, 2026, at the age of 84. She was born in Oakland, California, the daughter of Joseph William Bell and Margaret McCombs Bell, who predeceased her. She grew up in Berkeley and graduated from San Francisco State University. Margie moved to Louisiana in 1967 after marrying her loving husband, Jim. Margie taught school in Madisonville and Covington. With her numerous artistic talents and an indisputable eye for color, she later worked as an interior designer. She was a devoted parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington for the past 35 years and, among numerous other contributions, helped restore the Christ Episcopal Chapel.
In addition to her husband Jim, Margie is survived by their two children, Heather Valliant and Sean Valliant (Kristen); her grandchildren, Sean Michael Valliant, Jr. and Sarah Kate Valliant; her sister, Roberta Cook; brother, Ronald Bell; sister, Marian Margetson (Bruce); niece, Katie Cook (Tom Rietmann); and nephews Peter Cook (Martha); David Bell (Beth); Ian Margetson (Tristan); and other members of the extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 129 N. New Hampshire Street, Covington, LA. 70433, on Saturday, February 7, at 11:00 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Guimond Pierre Louis will officiate.
