Lynda Lou (Wurster) Deniger Obituary

Lynda Lou Wurster Deniger, 79, departed this earthly life to enter the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Lynda was born on August 26, 1947, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Charles Wurster, Jr. and Verna Barnes Wurster. She grew up in the small town of Jonesville, Louisiana, and graduated from Block High School in 1965. With a love for vocal and piano music, she attended Centenary College in Shreveport from 1965 to 1967.

Lynda worked for a time as a hairstylist, and she rarely went anywhere without her scissors nearby—just in case a friend or family member needed a quick trim. In 1974, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Her gift for writing led to work in freelance writing, public relations, and marketing, as well as a position as a staff writer for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans.

In 1990, Lynda married the love of her life, Ronald “Ron” Deniger, and together they made their home in Abita Springs, Louisiana. They especially enjoyed traveling and fishing together in their younger years. They shared their lives 33 years until Ron’s death in 2023.

From an early age, Lynda had a beautiful songbird voice and was never the least bit shy about entering a local talent show or pageant. She also became an accomplished pianist at a young age. In 1977, Lynda accepted Jesus Christ into her life, and from that time forward, she devoted much of her musical and creative talent to spread the love of Jesus.

She traveled throughout the United States and to the Philippines, sharing her faith in God through public speaking and song with women’s groups and Christian organizations.

Her ministry included prison outreach as well as work with a children’s orphanage in the Philippines. She organized shipping multiple cargo containers filled with goods for the orphanage and school, putting her compassion into action in ways that touched lives far from home.

Lynda also used her gift for freelance writing in service to her faith, contributing articles to Christian publications. She recorded a CD, The Journey Home, which included a song she wrote herself.

Her creativity found another joyful expression as the self-published author of two Louisiana-themed children’s books, complete with audio and sing-along CDs. But with Lynda, the stories did not simply stay on the page. She brought her characters to life through multimedia performances at schools, libraries, and festivals. Dressed as the captain of a shrimp boat—captain’s hat and deck boots included—she narrated and sang her way through the stories, delighting children while teaching lessons about teamwork, friendship, courage, and heroism. One of her books told the story of Patti Pelican’s rescue, rehabilitation, and release following the historic Gulf oil spill.

Lynda also loved gardening and cooking. She would often call family members to ask whether they remembered how Dad grew a particular vegetable or how Mom made one of the many dishes she loved.

She adored the pups who shared her life through the years and especially treasured Angel, her most recent fur baby, whom she could hardly bear to be away from. Lynda and Angel could often be found napping together or settling in to watch a Hallmark movie.

Lynda treasured her many friends and could spend hours on the telephone with them, frequently offering a little “advice” along the way. She had a beautiful smile, a warm heart, and truly never met a stranger. There were few places she could go in the Abita Springs and Covington area without hearing a familiar, “Hey, Ms. Lynda!”

Lynda is joyfully reunited with her cherished husband, Ronald Deniger; her beloved son, Robert “Bob”; and her loving parents, Charles and Verna Wurster, who preceded her in death.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith and will be deeply missed by her devoted sisters, Mildred Bean, Cynthia Cimini and husband Roland, and Charla Knapp and husband David; her uncle, Jimmy Haley; her aunt, Cherrie Wurster; and her stepdaughter, Melody Deniger Hassell. She is also survived by a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless treasured friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and grace.

A Graveside Service celebrating Lynda’s life and committal will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Abita Springs Cemetery, 71317 St. Joseph Street, Abita Springs, Louisiana. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and honor her memory.

Following the service, we would love to have everyone join us for a celebration of Lynda’s life at the Abita Lakes Estates Clubhouse, 201 Clear Lake Boulevard, Covington, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, and in reflection of Lynda’s compassionate heart, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or to a Christian organization of the donor’s choice, continuing her legacy of generosity and faith.

Those who knew Lynda know that her journey through life was not without trials, but she never wavered in her journey of faith. She continued to trust in the Lord she loved and to share that love with those around her.

Years ago, Lynda named her music CD The Journey Home. Today, those words carry an even deeper meaning. Her earthly journey is complete, and she has made her journey home.
