Lucia Guttierrez Obituary
Lucia Maria Guttierrez, loving mother, devoted grandmother, and everyone’s friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She passed away after battling a rare autoimmune disorder at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana. She was 78 years young.
Lucia was born in September of 1943 to Ferdinand Joseph Guttierrez, Jr. and Lucy Stoltz Guttierrez. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and graduated from Holy Angels Academy. She was married first to Robert Anthony Kahrs, and then to Michael Lawrence Guidry. She worked at Delta Steamship Lines and Stone Lumber Company before completing her Licensed Practical Nursing studies, and she served for many years as a floor nurse in various nursing homes and doctors’ offices on the Southshore and on the Northshore. After retiring from nursing, she became the full-time caretaker for her granddaughter, Melanie Anne Breaux, and she delighted in the accomplishments of her grandson, Robert Scott Kahrs, and her great-granddaughter, Elanah Nance. She also volunteered for many years at Franklinton Elementary School, where the students and staff all knew her by her “grandma name”: T.W. (That Woman). She loved coffee, elephants, her family, her pets, and the staff and students at FES. She always had a smile for everyone, and she was always a caregiver. Her light will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ferdinand Joseph Guttierrez, Jr. and Lucy Stoltz Guttierrez, her sister Sheila Guttierrez Castriotta, her sister Carol M. Guttierrez, and her former spouse Robert Anthony Kahrs.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Yvette Kahrs Breaux and Randy Breaux, and their daughter Melanie Anne Breaux, her son and daughter-in-law Jeffery David Kahrs and Shelly Pichon Kahrs, and their son Robert Scott Kahrs, her brother Ferdinand Joseph Guttierrez, III, and his wife Carol Brandt Guttierrez, her grandson Daniel Nance (Melissa Canfield), and his daughter Elanah Nance, her former husband Michael L. Guidry, and all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to share in a Memorial Service on January 22, 2022 at 4:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington, Louisiana. It was T.W.’s wish that you wear your blue jeans and comfortable shoes to her service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local food bank or animal shelter in her name.
