Kenneth Soike Jr. Obituary

Dr. Kenneth "Ken" Soike, 97, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, after a journey with dementia. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, He made his home in Covington, where he touched many lives with his quiet strength, enduring wisdom and steadfast presence. He was a member of Bush Methodist Church and enjoyed mowing grass, working in the yard, reading and spoiling his Grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Kenneth Soike Sr., and Viola Marquardt Soike, Brother, Richard “Dick” Soike, beloved Daughters Diana “Dee” Ingebo and Katherine “Kay” Knaff, Stepdaughter, Gina Lacroix, Stepson, Charles Lacroix, Step Grandson Richard “Andy” Scott Jr. 

Ken is survived by his loving Wife of 47 Years, Mary Morris Soike of Covington, La., Sons, David Soike and wife Ann of Baton Rouge, La., Kevin Soike and wife Kelli of Tallahassee Fl., Stepdaughter, Tracy Stansbuary of Bogalusa, La..  He also leaves many Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and Friends who adored him and will always carry his memory with them

A proud United States Navy Veteran and survivor of World War II, Ken courageously served his country. Following the war, he pursued a career in microbiology/virology—dedicating his life to science, discovery, and the quiet betterment of others through knowledge and research.  Later in his career, he worked at Tulane Primate Center, where he made lasting contributions to biomedical science. 

A lifelong learner, Ken never stopped seeking knowledge—growing in spirit until his final days. His gentle guidance and calm demeanor made him a quiet hero: dependable, kind, and always there for those who needed him.

Ken’s legacy is one of love, wisdom, service, and quiet resilience. His presence will be deeply missed, but his influence will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM with a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at Bush Methodist Church, 81306 Hwy. 41, Bush, La., 70431.  Rev. Jim Fatic will officiate.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bush Methodist Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
