John Earl Schofield Jr.

John Earl Schofield, Jr., 83, of Covington, LA, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, surrounded by his family.  Born in New Orleans, John was a resident of Chalmette until 2005 when he relocated to St. Tammany.  John graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School in 1960 and was a member of the Catholic faith.  He enjoyed listening to oldies music, DJing for St. Patrick's Day parades, watching LSU and Saints football, and spending time with his family and friends.  John retired from Rudy's Auto Repair where he worked doing paint and body work.   

He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary "Kathi" Moss Schofield, parents John Earl Schofield, Sr., and Ovida Daroca Schofield Kuss, brother Rudy Schofield, and granddaughter Taylor Schofield.  

John is survived by his sons, John "J" Schofield, III, (companion Susie Ingram), Steven Schofield (Dawn), and Michael "Scott" Schofield (Jill).  He was the devoted grandfather of Alexandra, Brenna, Madison, Colin, Paige, and Scott.  He will by missed by his brothers-in-law, Gordon "Pete" Moss, Jr., and Michael Moss (Mary Ann), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM to be held at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple Street, Abita Springs, LA, with a Memorial Mass to follow at 1:00 PM.  Rev. Peter Hammett will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.  Cremation was entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home.  

The family would like to give special thanks to St. Tammany Parish Hospice, Nurse Sandy, CNA Danisha, Roy Lacoste, and Marius Kruebbe.
