John Kreeger Obituary

JOHN JOSEPH “JOHNNY” KREEGER, beloved husband of Debra (“Debi”) Plakiotis Kreeger and loving father of Scott (Victoria) and Matthew (deceased) passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 6:02PM in Covington, LA, where he resided for the past 19 years.  Johnny was 78 years old and the proud grandfather of Meghan and Jared of Mandeville, LA, Jobe, Logan and Brooke of Schriever, LA, and Luke, Jude, Tristan and Eli of Cottondale, AL.

Born on October 11, 1946, in New Orleans, LA, the only child of Arthur Ektor Kreeger and Anna Laura Gaffney Kreeger who both predeceased him, Johnny grew up in St. Bernard Parish and Irish Bayou.  He was a 1964 graduate of Chalmette High School.  Johnny followed his dad in joining Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 60, New Orleans, LA, in 1964 and was a journeyman pipefitter and welder until 1984 when an injury changed his path.  Married to Debi in 1986, he worked several plant shutdowns and outages in the Louisiana area until becoming a new car salesman in 1993 at the Ford dealership in Slidell, LA.  Learning from the best, he was a top selling salesman and went on to work for a few local dealerships before landing at Banner Ford in Mandeville, LA, in 2006, where he worked until his death as salesman and finally as Inventory Manager.

Johnny’s devotion to his home life especially as Debi’s best friend, husband and co-pet parent were his most endearing qualities.  Even with several pets of his own, his love for all animals included, up until recent months, the care of community cats near his workplace for more than a decade.  In earlier years, Johnny was a ProAm bowler, and a dedicated bass and speckled trout fishermen who knew Lake Pontchartrain and the Pearl River area like the back of his hand.  A manic fan of all things LSU, Johnny was a daily follower of TIGER DROPPINGS and never missed watching his beloved Tigers play, win or lose.

No services will be forthcoming at his request.  Please join his family in prayer and send healing thoughts during their adjustment to this most unexpected, heartbreaking loss.
