John L. Calico, Jr. a native of New Orleans, resident of Covington, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019, at the age of 79. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sylvia Carlini Calico. Loving Father of Gary J. Calico, devoted Grandfather of Nicholas (Nick) and Dominic (Tony) Calico. Son of the late John L. Calico, Sr. and Lucille Borne Calico. Brother of Rosary Abadie (late Clarence), and the late Robert (Bobby) Calico (Teresa) and Catherine Calico. John attended Annunciation Grammar School, graduated from Cor Jesu High School and from Loyola University. A 25 year veteran with the New Orleans Police Department and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Investigator with Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office and Fraud Investigator with GEICO Insurance. Military Police for nine years with the La. National Guard, Jackson Barracks. Longtime coordinator of security for the Municipal Auditorium,Theater of Performing Arts and The Opheum Theater. Most recently a part time instructor with Professional Security Training Institute and also John was a Notary Public. Many years an active member of Kiwanis International with Arabi/St. Bernard and in Covington (served as Lt. Governor for La.-Miss.- W.Tenn. Dist.). John was a man of strong faith, he attended Manresa Retreats for many years. As a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, John served as a Eucharistic Minister, Social Apostolate, Holy Name Society, and Capital Campaign. Charter Member and Officer of the Knights of Columbus Council 14614, and Charter Member, Officer and Color Guard Commander of Archbishop Philip M. Hannan Assembly 3329. Chairman of the committee for Coats for Kids yearly drive. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the American Cancer Society. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Dr., Covington. Visitation at the church begins at 10:30am with the Mass at 12:30pm. Interment immediately following at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, Covington, LA.
