JoBeth Brown of Covington, LA passed away on July 31st, 2024, four days before her 99th birthday. JoBeth was born in Mineral Wells, Texas to Joe and Myrth Blain. She met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Owen Brown, whom she was married to for 77 years prior to his passing. Their love lives on through their three daughters, Barbara, Lindy (Augie), and Tana (Alan), and their son, Brian, along with seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Her death was preceded by the passing of her son, Blain.
JoBeth had an uncanny ability to connect and create. She had a tight-knit group of friends that included a monthly dinner group (which later became a lunch group) with some of the founding and early members of St. Matthews from 1957, a theological study group, close neighborhood friends, and golf buddies. She was a formidable opponent on the golf course, loved to garden, feed the birds, and was an incredible seamstress. Another gift she often shared with others was her love of flowers and floral arranging.
Led by her faith as a member of the United Methodist Church, she was a supportive and caring member of the community, often volunteering her time to help those in need. In the 70s, she volunteered at the Head Clinic and became friends with the director, Michael Stark (also known as the King of the Hippies). Along with Betty Brockhaus she started Village Preschool for children in the Bunche Village neighborhood that did not have access to early education. The preschool was free of charge for children in the area, and totally volunteer run.
She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Christwood in Covington, LA at 5pm on Sunday, August 4th (her birthday) in the Garden Room with a reception to follow. Donations can be made in her memory to Heifer International at heifer.org.
Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
