Janet Hazlett Obituary

Janet Lee Hazlett, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the age of 91 years. She was born on November 15, 1933 in Hamilton, Ohio, to Perry and Nellie Thompson, and currently resided in Mandeville, Louisiana. Janet lived a vibrant and spirited life, full of laughter, love, and fierce devotion to God and her family. She was known for her sass and signature honesty, as she was truly one of a kind with a heart overflowing with compassion. She loved the mountains, cherished her years working at Dollywood, and never missed an episode of Days of Our Lives, having followed the show for over 70 years. She found joy in painting, stayed active with Silver Sneakers, and was an avid fan of Drew Brees. Her warmth, humor, and lively spirit made her unforgettable to everyone who knew her.

Janet’s greatest pride was her family. She is preceded in death by her grandson Russell Hazlett, as well as her former Husband of 49 years, James Hazlett, and son Jason Hazlett. She is survived by her children: Oldest son James “Skeet” Hazlett(Pam); Daughter Laura Haggard(Ryan); great-grandchildren, Elise, Blake, and Hayden. James' step-daughter Leslie Ellis and great-grandchild, Marley Whartman. Daughter Tina Jamison and her children, Ryan Jamison(Letty) with great-granddaughter Sofia, and Kasey Mendershausen(Eric) with great-grandson Gavin. Son Scott Hazlett and children Kayla and Kyle. Melanie Dyess(Tony) and their daughters Nicole “Niki”  Butler(Brad) with great-grandchildren Carson and Maddie; Tracey Coulter(Mike) with great-grandchildren Jesse and Colston. Melanie's only son, Bradley Dyess. Melanie’s step-daughter Jennifer Sims(Randall) with great-grandchildren Ella Margaret, Emma Grace, and Levi Sims. Janet's youngest son, Jason Hazlett; his daughter, Ashley Sullivan(Dylan), completing Janet’s immediate family that will carry on her memories with love.

Though her passing marks the end of a cherished four-generation Hazlett tradition, Janet’s legacy lives on through the many lives she touched. Her strength and love shaped the heart of her family and brought light to everyone lucky enough to know her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in stories shared, laughter remembered, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. What a full and beautiful life she lived for 91 remarkable years.
