James “Jim” Holland Looney Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home with his Wife Linda and Daughter Jennifer by his side. He was a native of Dallas, Texas, and a resident of Abita Springs for the last 36 years. Jim graduated from Texas Christian University with a Theological Degree and Loyola University with a Degree in Law. He was formerly an Ordained Minister with First Christian Disciples Church. Jim then pursued his career as a Criminal Defense Attorney since 1978. He started and ran the Louisiana Appellate Project for 26 years. Jim’s passion was the Law Profession and he believed everyone was deserving of fair representation. He enjoyed being a Disney fan and loved travelling to Walt Disney World with his wife and friends. Jim was a New Orleans Saints and TCU Horned Frogs Fan, dressed up at Halloween and gave out full size candy bars, enjoyed his Cat Cosmo and visiting with friends and family at his home.
He was preceded in death by Father, Billy Albert Looney, Mother, Helen Holland Looney, Brothers, Tom Looney and Joe Looney.
Jim is survived by his Wife of 32 Years, Linda Nelson Looney of Abita Springs, La., Sons, James Looney Jr. of Houston, Texas, Stephen Looney of Austin, Texas, Billy Sussky of Covington, La., Matthew Sussky of Covington, La., Daughters, Anne Thibodeaux and husband Shane of Nederland, Texas, Jennifer Delatte of Covington, La., Brother, Tim Looney and wife Barbara of Dallas, Texas and 11 Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 20419 Hwy. 36, Covington, La., 70433. Father Dean Robins will officiate with Inurnment to follow at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, St. Benedict, La.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Advocacy Center, P.O. Box 1852, Covington, La. 70434.
The family would like to thank Notre Dame Hospice, Serenity Funeral Home, Father Dean Robins, and the many great doctors that cared for Jim during his illness.
