Gilbert G. 'Gil' Springer was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 25, 1934 and passed away on March 18, 2026. He served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp and was a devoted Ohio State Buckeye, never missing a chance to cheer on his team. Gil graduated from The Ohio State University with a B. S. and worked as a federal employee in various capacities. During his time with the federal government, he traveled the world to unique locations. Over the years, he and his wife lived in various cities across the United States, eventually making their home in Covington, Louisiana. Gil enjoyed college football, reading, traveling, fly fishing, woodworking, and being with his grandkids. He was a member of St. Timothy on the Northshore and a student of the Bible.
Gil is survived by his daughter, Sarah Al-Juraid (Saad), his son, Bradley Springer (Cap), and his daughter-in-law, Deborah May. He is the devoted grandfather of Sultan, Reem, Mishal, JC, Joshua, Dominic, Emma, and Ellie. He had one great grandchild, Benson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Debbie Bell, and his niece and nephew, Erin and Nic.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, his son, Brian, his brother-in-law, David Bell, and his parents, Gilbert and Florene Springer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Gil’s behalf to Passages Hospice in Covington. A private service will be held in May at St. Timothy on the Northshore in the Memorial Garden.. Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, LA.
