Gerard Clifford Schuler

Gerard Clifford Schuler passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 surrounded by his family in Kenner, LA. A native of New Orleans, he was born on January 25, 1927, age 97 years. He was the beloved husband for 46 years to Nancy Fontenot Schuler until her death in 1997. Gerard leaves behind his children, Gerard R. Schuler(Penny), Deborah Schwab(Charles), Clifford H. Schuler(Annette), Gwendolyn Schwab(Joseph), and Gary J. Schuler; his eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren, as well as his sister, Bernadette DuRapau, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. Schuler and Mary Cecelia Schuler; his siblings,  Joseph P. Schuler, Raymond L. Schuler, and Mildred Stewart.

Gerard proudly served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army, and was an active supporter of the WWII Museum in New Orleans. He worked as a licensed plumber and supervisor at Tulane Medical School for over 27 years, where he was affectionately known as ‘Chief’.  

When not working, he enjoyed his family, who lovingly called him ‘Tiger’. He loved fishing and crabbing at his camp on Salt Bayou in Slidell. Before Katrina, Gerard was a devoted parishioner at St. Louise De Marillac Catholic Parish, and served for many years as an Usher.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. 4921 W. Metairie Ave., Metairie, LA on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM, with Visitation beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Rd., St. Rose, LA. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, LA.
