Geoffrey Brown Obituary

Geoffrey Hugh Brown , 72, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at a local hospital.  One of seven children, Geoffrey was born in Weatherford, Texas, the sixth child of Jarvis and Mildred Brown.  When he was two years old his family moved to New Orleans for the second time, and Geoffrey enjoyed all the freedoms and outdoor adventures of boys growing up at that time.  He loved being outside and exploring the creeks and waterways near the Mississippi for crawfish, frogs and other crustaceans that he would bring home in his dirty little hands.  Geoffrey had the mind of an artist, and his family recognized that from an early age.  His teachers praised his vocalese and encouraged him to pursue a career in music.  He could play the guitar and would occasionally sing “Mr. Bojangles” for his friends and family and his rendition moved us to tears.  His family moved back to Texas in 1960, and he attended elementary school and later senior high school at Spring Branch High School where he earned his diploma in 1969.  He worked various jobs after high school, and everyone always remarked about what a hard and reliable worker he was.  He spurned higher education but was eager to learn new skills until the drug culture and many personal setbacks discouraged him.  He married in 1975.  The marriage was short lived and he did not have any children.  He fought with his two brothers about Vietnam and somehow, when it was all over, he slid into oblivion.  For many years no one knew where he was, and in his later years when he lived in Baton Rouge, he declined overtures from his brothers and his sister.  His independent streak prevented him from sharing his troubles or asking for help. He held on to his dignity until the end; never asking his family for anything.  May he rest in peace.

Geoffrey is proceeded in death by his Father, Jarvis Brown, Mother, Mildred Brown, Brothers, Lance Brown, Steven Brown, David Brown and Sister, Martha Bryan.

He is survived by his Brother, Rodger Brown of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Sister, Sherryl Brown of Wheaton, Illinois, and numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
