Frank Varuso passed away on November 8, 2024 at the age of 97. He is survived by three sons, Jack (Jeannie), Randy (Patti) and Jude, grandchildren, Randi Varuso Gioe (Joey), Andrea Varuso Corne (Scott), great-grandchildren, Raegan and Joey Gioe III, Gavin and Garrett Corne, and many caring and loving nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Anna Calo Varuso and Gioacchino “Jack” Varuso, sisters, Josephine, Mariann, Fina, Francis, Helena, Jane, Anna, and brother Jack Varuso (killed in the WWII Battle of the Bulge at 19 years of age), his adored wife of 58 years Virginia Puloma Varuso, children Diana, Frank Jr., Richard and Gary Varuso. To honor of his grandfather Francisco Calo, who brought his parents to New Orleans in 1901 from Sicily seeking the American Dream, at birth he was named Francisco Varuso, and was affectionately called Franco only by his mother. Being the youngest of 9 children and a proud first generation American, like his brother Jack 18 months older, he enlisted to serve in the US Navy in the Pacific during WWII, returning home to work in the building trades with his father, passing on a work ethic and legacy he would live to see carried on by his children and grandchildren. For those whose lives he touched, he will be remembered for his friendly smile, pleasant conversation and the love and gratitude he always shared with family and friends. His life and burial will be celebrated in a private graveside ceremony, where he will be reunited with his parents, wife and children in St. Louis Cemetery #3 in New Orleans.
