Eugene James Kolar

Eugene James Kolar passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in Violet, LA surrounded by his family. A native of Shiner, Texas and resident of Bogalusa, age 73 years. Eugene is survived by his sons, Matthew M. Kolar and Kevin J. Kolar(Kellee Joiner); his devoted granddaughters, Haley Ann Munch and Tessy Noel Kolar; and loving great granddaughters, Alaia Ann Munch and Lainey Ann Wehner. He is also survived by his siblings, David Kelley Kolar and Cheryl Harper, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 52 years, Kathleen Gaye Layman Kolar; his parents, Eugene Adolph Kolar and Jimmie Rhea Boykin; as well as his siblings, Sheila J. (Kolar) Biggs, and Cynthia Lee Kolar.

Eugene served in the United Sates Navy for over 23 years as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for many years as a supervisor in Northrup Grummans' shipping division as well as serving with many offshore and salvage companies throughout the Gulf South.

An avid and longtime Dallas Cowboys fan and Texas Longhorns fan, Eugene was also active in American Legion Post 24, Bogalusa, Louisiana. 

A Committal Service with Naval Honors will be held at Southeast LA Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA in January, 2025, date pending. Please visit us here for an update in the New Year.
