Ella Sortor Obituary

Ella Hulin Falcon Sortor passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2020. She was born in 1935 in Lake Charles, LA to the late Eva M. Gunther and Earl Joseph Hulin. Ella moved to New Orleans as a young child and was a graduate of Nicholas High School class of 1954. She later became a longtime resident of St. Tammany Parish living in both the Slidell and Mandeville areas. Ella is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years James Berkley Sortor, Sr. and son James “Jimmy” B. Sortor, Jr. Ella was affectionately known as Grandi and is survived by her children Robert G. Falcon, Jr. (Adrail), Kevin M. Falcon (Charlotte) and Karen F. Hanagriff (John). She is also survived by eight grandchildren Robert G. Falcon III (Christine), Summer F. Peyton, Shannon Paul Cancienne (Missy), Dexter Jules Cancienne (Trudy), Lindsay F. Dow (Hutch), Joshua C. Falcon, Michelle H. Still (Kevin) and Jason M. Hanagriff (Rebecca) and fourteen great- grandchildren Tyler Christopher Kinler, Taylor Alexis Peyton, Caroline Eileen Falcon ,Clara Everly Falcon, Mary Ella Dow, Charlotte Suzann Dow, George, Hudson Dow, Annabella Joy Falcon, Isabel Ann Still, Jase Micheal Hanagriff, Mia Margherita Hanagriff, Madison Alyssa Cancienne, Dustin Casimir Cancienne (Carrie), Rae Lynn Cancienne and two great great grandchildren Cooper John Cancienne, Caden Casimir Cancienne. Ella worked many years for the K&B Drug store chain as a cashier and later became store manager over many of the stores in the New Orleans area. After her years at K&B, she began volunteering at Slidell Memorial Hospital as an Information Desk Ambassador and then became an employee in the Gift Shop. Ella enjoyed road trips and visiting her favorite casinos. She loved to follow pro sports, especially baseball, tennis and basketball. Most of all she loved her Schnauzer babies. Ella will be greatly missed. The Sortor, Falcon and Hanagriff families would like to thank the staff at Heritage Manor of Mandeville and St. Catherine’s Hospice for the compassionate care they have provided for Ella. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, visitation begins at 10:00 AM until Service begins at 11:00 AM.
