Effie Virginia Brown Stokes was born into this world on December 3rd, 1929 in Hartsville South Carolina to Travis Peterson, her dearly departed Mother and Ralph Brown her departed Dad! To this wonderful household she shared her dearly departed Brother Mr. Benjamin Brown & her dearly departed Sister Mrs. Magalee Brown!
After many years her mother moved the family to New York, because her mother worked hard to provide for her children Effie was sent to live with a family member who was like a second mother to her, who has also departed many years ago Mrs. Elouise Peterson and her husband who has departed many years ago as well Mr. Jerome Peterson in Elizabeth New Jersey!
When it was time for high school Effie went back to New York & attended George Washington High School where she met the Love of her Life, her dearly departed husband Mr. Herbert Leon Stokes Jr. Effie and Herbert were married on May 15th, 1952.
To this wonderful Union although they suffered 7 miscarriages, they were able to bring three children into their home! Herbert Leon Stokes III-departed, John Hiram Stokes departed, and her only living daughter Sandra Colette Victoria Stokes, Daughter-In-Law, Treneine Leola Doaks and grandchildren Trinity Barrow, Troy Michael Barrow Jr., Taliyah Barrow and Tatiyana Barrow. Effie also has these her cousin Lou Everett Napper and these family members sharing in her loss her nieces Simone Wilson, Tyrell Wilson & Indah Wilson. Her nephew Eric Wilson, John Stokes, Andrew Stokes, & Kevin Fernandez. Her great nephews are Ray Baldon & Ron Pantoje & Jeffrey Jones. Her great nieces are Tami Baldon, Tami Freeman & Gina Weldon. Her Daughter-In-Law Cynthia Stokes and her grandchildren departed Corey Michael Stokes, Jamal Tyrone Stokes, Herbert Leon Stokes IV, James Stokes & Nefertiti Colleen Stokes. She also left behind a host of great grandchildren and great nephews and nieces. Effie also leaves behind her last living Sister-In-Law Mrs. Beth Margaret Jenkins and Beth’s grandchildren, which were her nieces Wanda Chambers & Tracy Chambers. In this life she also leaves behind two very dear friends, Mrs. Betty Grady & Mrs. Elaine Effie spent her years raising her children and caring for her family.
Now the human side of Effie loved playing cards (Spades & Bid Whis) Atlantic City & playing her numbers! She spent her last year’s being a devoted holy & sanctified member praising God daily and accepting Jesus as her Lord & Savoir! She could quote many verses and scriptures from The Bible without missing a beat! Effie lived a Glorious & Wonderful 94 years, and she will be truly missed! To God Be All the Glory! Her musical selections would have been Amazing Grace & Precious Lord!!
