Edwin Ray Hickman was born on Monday, January 15, 1968, at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. He was born to Ray and Jean Hickman – a boy at last! Their joy was overshadowed by the unhappy prognosis of the doctor – that as a result of Jean having contracted measles during pregnancy, Edwin would be deaf, mentally retarded, and crippled. The doc got one right – Edwin was deaf but that didn’t slow him down much.
Ray and Jean pre-deceased Edwin – Ray when Edwin was in high school and Jean in 2019. Edwin has three beloved sisters - Tammy Turner, Tracy Vondarl, and Shantel Sciacca, all of whom were devoted to Edwin’s care and support. Edwin has a niece, Haley Sciacca Engeron, and two nephews, Christopher Hoyt and Dustin Hoyt.
Edwin’s favorite past times were following his preferred NASCAR drivers, Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott, as well as watching the football games of the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friend from childhood, Pete Brown, as well as his many cousins. Edwin also maintained a wide circle of on-line friends through Facebook, SnapChat, and X – formally Twitter.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 20 years, Terry Hickman.
