Edward William Stempel Jr. of Covington, LA, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 80. Ed was born in New Orleans on June 16,1943 to the late Edward William Stempel Sr. and the late Ruth Cohen Stempel. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Stempel Anderson. Ed was the beloved husband of Cheryl Mares Stempel for 57 years. He is the adored father of Julie Stempel Ibieta (Juan) and Jeffrey Michael Stempel (Julie). Ed is the cherished grandfather of 5 grandchildren: Jenna Ibieta, Justin Ibieta, Jake Ibieta, Owen Stempel and Nolan Stempel. He is also survived by his brother, John Stempel (Cindy), sister, Barbara Stempel Smyth and sister, Cynthia Stempel Schroeder.
He graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School in 1961 and LSUNO with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 1966. Ed worked at Freeport-McMoran for over 33 years as an administrator in the Accounting department. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends; particularly attending school and athletic events of his children and grandchildren. He encouraged and supported his family in all of their endeavors. Ed was an avid fan of the Saints, Tulane and LSU. He enjoyed playing golf, watching movies and most of all rooting for the New York Yankees. Ed had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on January 27, 2024, at 9AM at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, La. 70447. A Mass of Celebration will follow at 10:30 AM with Rev. Msgr. Frank J. Giroir.

The family would like to thank Mercy Home Health and St. Tammany Parish Hospice. A special thank you goes out to his caregiver, Catrease Harris for her loving care.
