Earlita Miller Obituary

Earlita Leona Miller (Fardy) passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Covington, Louisiana, at 78 years of age. Earlita was born in Webster City, Iowa, and grew up in Fort Dodge. Earlita graduated from Fort Dodge High School, class of 1961. After graduation, she moved to Southern California, where she graduated from California State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Diversified Social Science and started her family. While living in Southern California, she worked at Fairview State Hospital as a social worker. In 1973, she relocated to New Orleans with her family, where she taught at Mater Dolorosa and Ursuline Academy. The highlight of her career was in organizational development at Lockheed Martin and later at Ochsner hospital in New Orleans, from where she retired. After retiring, she spent time in Whidbey Island, Washington, and Washburn, Missouri, prior to finally moving to Mandeville, LA. Earlita loved the good stuff in life, from fresh seafood to various distilled delicacies. She loved sailing, traveling, and reading on the back porch, overlooking Bayou Bonfouca. Earlita was known for her sharp wit, and her dry sense of humor. Her children fondly remember camping trips to Port St. Joe, Florida, where she enjoyed snorkeling and spending time on the beach. At home she was fond of movie nights with family. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Bridget M. Ditta, Barbara A. Johnson and her husband Scott, Russell S. Harris III, and Theodore H. Harris and his wife Louise, as well as her grandchildren Sarah, Randi, Jon, Brianna, Ashley, Lily Beth, and Sarah. She is also survived by her siblings George Fardy and Marilyn McCall. She was preceded in death by her husband William C. ‘Bill’ Miller; her parents Leona J. ‘Friday’ Fardy and Earl A. Fardy, as well as her siblings Betty Utt and Tom Fardy, and her son Michael B. Harris. Earlita would ask for those that knew her to celebrate her memory by raising a glass over a good meal with friends and family. She will always be in our hearts and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund https://www.kidneyfund.org/donate or Support Kidney Patients - American Kidney Fund in memory of Earlita Miller. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, LA. Condolences and tributes can be posted at www.serenitycovington.com
