Louise passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on October 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Oakdale, Louisiana, on September 9, 1940 to her parents William JC Dickens and Lucy Anna Potter Dickens, she was 85 years old.
Louise earned her BS and MA in Education and Home Economics from Louisiana Tech University and was a Home Economics and English teacher for 40 years. She loved teaching and loved her “kids”. Many prior students have expressed that Mrs. Gorum was their favorite teacher! She was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She loved all things nature and was extremely creative, loving and selfless.
She is proceeded in death by her mother, father and brothers David and Robert.
Louise is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald O. Gorum. She leaves behind her daughter Donna Gorum Glenn (Robert) of Metairie; son, Brian Gorum (Amy) of Vernal, Utah; and adored grandson, Johnathan Glenn of Baton Rouge.
She is also survived by her sister Lynn, her sisters-in-law, that she loved like sisters - Barbara Dickens (David) of Sulphur and Addi Lou Gorum (Jerry) of Calhoun and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1800 Country Club Rd., Lake Charles, LA. Visitation begins at 12:00 PM with Service beginning at 2:00 PM .
