Clara "Clarita" Inés Price passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023, surrounded
by her loving children, daughter-in-law and son-in-law. She is survived and loved by her three
children, George Price (wife Doreen), Nancy P. Borne (husband Michael), and Eunice Price, as well as her
three grandchildren, Alexander Burgers, Nicholas Burgers, and Bryce Borne. She is also
survived by numerous cousins in Colombia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jorge
Contreras and Josefina Hernandez Contreras; her brother, Jorge Contreras, her sister, Lucy
Contreras, as well as her former husband, Hewitt "Pee Wee" S. Price. Clara was born in Bogotá,
Colombia. Ahead of her time as a courageous, pioneering and independent young woman, she
left her home country and moved into The Louise Home in New Orleans to forge a new path in
her life, learn a new language and skills for employment, and establish new friends. Clara was a
loving and devoted Mother, and cherished her three grandchildren. She became a naturalized citizen
in 1969, fourteen years after she moved to the U.S. She was a resident of Arabi, LA, and,
after Hurricane Katrina, Metairie, LA. She was an employee of the City of New Orleans for
many years, and, after retirement, volunteered for several years at the Tulane Medical Center
Hospital & Clinic. She was a devout Christian and a parishioner of several different churches
over the course of her life. Clara had a passion for poetry, and was a writer of fine poetry in
both English and Spanish. She also loved classical music, gardening, growing roses, amaryllis,
and azaleas, sewing, creating art, and dancing her native cumbia. She will be deeply missed by
all who knew her. We are grateful for the loving attention that Clara received by the Academy
House caregivers, who were with her during her last days: Deadre, Rachael, Konswalo, Vanisha
and Peggy. We would also like to thank Interim Hospice, namely: Shannon, Stephanie, Jihan, and Cheri. We are also thankful for the care provided by her longtime physician, Dr. Luis Soto, as well as the house calls made by Dr. Pedro Romoguera.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette, LA, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 12:00 PM with Visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
Interment to follow at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, LA.
