Charles “Chuck” Robinson was born on March 26, 1941 and passed away on August 27, 2024.
Chuck grew up a young, gay man in Pryor, Oklahoma with big dreams and goals for his future. He left his small town to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. He later graduated with his Masters in Science. Mr. Robinson became a band director for Sunset High School in Dallas, TX, and joyously kept up with many of his students over the years.
Chuck’s deep passion for music led him to pursue country & western management. He became manager for several artists including Lynn Anderson and Dottie West, was president of Permian Records, affiliated with MCA Records, and owner of Banjo Man Records. His time was split between Dallas and Nashville, where he made many close friends over the years.
For the past 30 years, Chuck Robinson had made New Orleans his home with his partner- for the last 33 years- Ron Julian. He believed that a person needs to invest in the city and community one calls home.
Chuck became the owner of Robinson’s Antiques on Royal St, as well as the co-owner of Napoleon’s Itch. He often gave back to NOLA and worked to find ways to keep the community safe and welcoming. Chuck and Julian created The Bourbon Street Extravaganza as part of Southern Decadence to create spaces within NOLA that would meld the LGBTQ+ community with all lifestyles and ages in the hopes that there would be a greater understanding and acceptance of all people through the power of music.
His flair for storytelling, his deep affection for history and community, and his fierce determination to ensure that LGBTQ+ people were treated equally were some of his biggest passions. His love of music, history, and equality can be seen throughout his life as he lived through his passion. He has been celebrated and awarded many times over for his kind, caring, and generous spirit.
Chuck is preceded in death by his mother, Tillie Stafford, and his father, Alvin Robinson.
He is survived by his partner, Ron Julian of Pearl River, La., his sister, Marcella Parker of Oologah, Ok, his nieces, Sheryl Hicks and Julie Stout of Grand Lake, Ok, and his great nephew Raye Lutz of Claremore, Ok.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
