Carol Mary Kurelja Knoll, 77, of Covington, LA., passed away peacefully in the early morning on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, with her family by her side after battling an illness for the past year. She was a native of New Jersey and had been a resident of Covington for the past 25 years. Carol was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, where she enjoyed attending Mass.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edwin Knoll of Covington, LA; her son, Anton Knoll and his wife Kathleen of Kernersville, NC; daughters, Katherine O’Connell and her husband Mark of Covington, LA., Jennifer Hernandez and her husband Chet of Downingtown, PA, and Stephanie Knoll of Covington, LA. Her trusty sidekick, Duke, the family dog, remained by her side and provided additional company throughout her illness. Carol had a large and loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Ann Kurelja; her brother, Anton Kurelja; and her sister, Barbara Wright.
Her other seven siblings include Chris Kurelja of Estes Park, CO; Patricia Matteson of Loveland, CO; Ann Gumby of Midlothian, VA; Mary Marshall of Bath, PA; Elizabeth of Estes Park, CO; Peter Kurelja of Red Rocks, PA; and John Kurelja of Bloomsburg, PA. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Kara, Ryan, Corey, Ronnie, Cami, and Alex.
Carol graduated from secretarial school and held various positions throughout her life, working in banking, secretarial roles, and at Walgreens, where she worked for 15 years. She was also a homemaker, raising her four children. Carol was a creative and generous person who loved all types of sewing and shared her passion with everyone. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, needlework, knitting, and crocheting. She made items for her family, including quilts for every new baby, christening dresses and needlework announcements for each wedding. Although Carol was often quiet and reserved, she had a good sense of humor and was determined and tenacious when something was important to her. She was a perfectionist with her work and her sewing projects, and she would not deliver a project until it was “just right.”
A Catholic service is planned for late October/early November at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd, Covington, LA 70435.
Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
