Bruce "Podz" or "Smitty" Michael Smith

Bruce Michael Smith, affectionately known as "Podz" or "Smitty," 71, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025.  Born on October 1, 1954, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Burke Elliot Smith and Jacquelyn Lee Smith, Bruce grew up in the heart of Ohio before finding his true home in the vibrant spirit of Louisiana. He was a good-humored, kind, and delightfully witty man whose quick wit and warm heart endeared him to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.  An avid golfer, Bruce lived a golfer’s dream—chasing perfect drives down sunlit fairways, savoring the quiet thrill of a well-played shot, and sharing post-round stories with friends over cold drinks. But his passions extended far beyond the greens. He loved music and held a special place in his heart for New Orleans, drawn irresistibly to its lively culture, soulful sounds, and irrepressible energy. Above all, he cherished the company of good friends—finding endless delight in shared laughter, tall tales, and genuine companionship.  Throughout his career, Bruce took pride in his work and forged lasting relationships with colleagues and business associates alike. He touched their lives profoundly with his generosity, sharp humor, and unwavering genuine care.

Bruce is survived by his devoted brothers, Scott Elliot Smith, Stephen Burke Smith, and “Chip” Burke E. Smith II.  He was predeceased by his beloved parents.

The family will receive friends on January 12, 2026, at 3:00 PM with a Memorial Service at 4:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel at 20419 Hwy. 36, Covington, LA. 70433.  Pastor Winfred Baker will officiate.  In keeping with Bruce’s independent spirit, the family kindly requests privacy.

Bruce will be deeply missed by his wide circle of friends and family. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and that unmistakable witty charm will live on forever in the countless hearts he brightened.
