Brian “Mr. Magoo” Rudy Granstrom, 68, of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, after a hard-fought nine-year battle with cancer.
Born on July 17, 1957, in Michigan to Elgin Granstrom and Betty Bloomfield, Brian grew up in northern Michigan and graduated from Alpena High School in 1975. He enjoyed traveling and lived in several states throughout his life, including Florida, New Mexico, and Texas, before making Louisiana his home for more than 15 years. A devout Catholic, Brian was a faithful parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Slidell, under the leadership of Father Darmanin.
Brian had many passions. He loved watching sports, fishing, riding horses, collecting coins, watches and baseball cards, writing poetry, and playing the harmonica. In later years, he proudly fulfilled a bucket-list dream of owning and learning to ride a motorcycle, spending many happy afternoons on the road.
An accomplished athlete in his youth, Brian earned numerous trophies and medals in wrestling and running. He went on to graduate from Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute and later became a NICET-certified Engineer Technician (ET) Level III in highway design—a professional achievement he held in high regard.
Brian deeply cherished his friendships. In recent years, he was especially close to Dorothea, Quentin, Jon, and Becky, treating their children as his own grandchildren. He delighted in their accomplishments, spoke proudly of them, and treasured watching them grow. He was grateful for the support and companionship of his friends in his final years.
Above all, Brian’s greatest loves were his pet birds. In his words, “Bisquit, my conure was my life and my love. I never got over his loss. Please take care of Raisin, my new green-cheeked conure. He is an absolute joy. My English parakeet named English was also my love baby.” Special thanks are extended to Dr. Greg Rich for caring for Bisquit and Raisin over the years, and for ensuring Raisin will have a loving home in Brian’s absence.
As per Brian’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Covington, La.
