Romona Braniff Obituary

Romona “Mona” Mary Burch Braniff, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home, in Bush, LA, on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the age of 78. She was born in 1943, in New Orleans, LA, to the late, Velma and George Burch. Half of her younger years, Mona resided in New Orleans (Royal Street), and the other Tickfaw, LA. Until meeting who would soon become her husband Ernest, and relocating to Marrero, LA, where she raised their children and granddaughter, who were all her pride and joy!

Shortly after the death of her husband, she was placed in Pontchartrain Living Facility for rehab. Instead of getting better she took a turn for the worse. So, on July 31, 2021, I, Crystal Griffin, brought my grandmother home on Palliative Care and within two weeks she went under hospice care, where she was able to hold on for 4 1/2 more amazing months. I will always cherish in my heart the words she was able to tell me on Thanksgiving Day, “I was a spoiled old lady all day, and I enjoyed every moment of it!” We all hoped she would be here for at least one last Christmas, but unfortunately, she missed it by 9 days. It warms my heart; she was at least able to listen to Christmas carols while watching Jason Smith (who she considered her grandson) and her great grandchildren decorate the tree. Though we weren’t ready for you to go I keep telling myself God needed another Angel and who better than you.

The most important things in Romona’s life were to worship her Lord Jesus Christ, and to be surrounded by her family who she loved dearly and would do anything for. Mona was known throughout her neighborhood as the HSN and QVC Queen. There wasn’t one day that passed the mailman didn’t stop at her house. She loved going shopping, out to eat, gardening and decorating for the holidays (especially Christmas). Mona loved Christmas so much every year she would drive me and my friends around the neighborhoods listening to Christmas carols and looking at all the lights.

Loving wife of the Late Ernest “Dickie” Braniff for 54 years.

Devoted mother of George Allen Burch and Gwendolyn Ann Braniff Griffin Park (Tim).

Oldest sister to Pauline Marmillion, Rickey Burch, and the Late Willard, Richard, Larry, and Barbara Burch.

Amazing grandmother to Crystal, Blade, and Nicole Griffin. And great grandmother to Braylinn and Brayden Jarrell, Kyrie Dykes, Ava Smith, Aubrey and Nova Luwisch.

Romona leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

I would like to personally thank Daniella (nurse) and also Ashley (Social Worker) for the amazing care and thoroughness she did for my grandmother, while being there emotionally for me too. Fabiana, her aid also did a great job! Ya’ll will never know how much your kindness and support meant to me.

A private, last goodbye for the immediate family was held in her honor at Serenity Funeral Home, Covington. On a later date, her and her husband will be buried together where they can aggravate each other for eternity.

In lieu of flowers please donate to any organizations trying to find a cure for Dementia or Compasses Hospice, Mandeville, LA. Condolences can be posted at www.serenitycovington.com
