Philip Joseph Anselmo, age 73, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend to many, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021.
He was born to the late Joseph Anselmo and Antonina Taormina Anselmo in 1947. He is survived by three sons, Philip H. Anselmo (Kate), John and Joseph; three daughters, Andrea (Jim), Adrienne (Jacob) and Alyse (Kyle); eight grandchildren, Blair Bourgeois, Austin Foreman, Beau Foreman, Ella Derry, Philip Gaudet, Lucy Derry, Jack Gaudet, and Antonina Anselmo; and one great-grandchild, Sophia Foreman; and several cousins. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Judith Anselmo Dave.
Phil attended Holy Rosary School on Jena Street in New Orleans and graduated in 1966 from John McDonogh High School. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond before moving back to New Orleans. He become a well-known bar and restaurant owner of places such as The Library in New Orleans, and C Beevers, and Anselmo’s Restaurant in Metairie before retiring in 2009.
In the business for nearly four decades, Phil welcomed in those he knew and strangers alike into his places of business. And once a customer walked in, they often became not only a regular patron, but a friend.
A Celebration of his life will be held on a later date due to coronavirus restrictions.
