Owen Cleveland Brown Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Owen Cleveland Brown Jr., 97, of Covington LA died on Thursday, June 2, 2022. He was born on a cattle ranch in Perrin, Texas, the son of Ethel and Owen Brown and younger brother to Kathlyn. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 77 years, JoBeth, his three daughters, Barbara, Lindy (Augie), and Tana (Alan), and his son Brian, along with seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Blain. Owen led a very full life. He served in the Navy during World War II, returning to Southern Methodist University to receive his master’s degree in geology. He then worked as an oil and gas geologist. Owen had many interests, including traveling, maintaining his beautiful yard, and playing and watching golf. He was an active member of St. Matthews Methodist Church in Metairie, and St. Timothy Methodist Church in Mandeville serving in many leadership roles. Owen’s closest friends included a monthly dinner group (which later became a lunch group) with some of the founding and early members of St. Matthews from 1957, and a theological study group which he led. He volunteered with many organizations but was especially passionate about adult literacy, and for many years coordinated the Operation Mainstream program on the Northshore. He will be remembered for his kindness, and by his children for his rendition of Froggie went a Courtin’. Visitation will be held at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Mandeville at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 5, 2022 followed by a Service at 2:30 PM.
