Oris Creighton Obituary

Oris Raymond Creighton, age 82 a native New Orleanian and resident of Folsom, LA, passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2018, due to Parkinson's Disease. Oris was born in New Orleans to the late Jane Graffeo Creighton and Earl (Tom) Creighton. Loving and devoted husband of Bobbie Jean Veazey Creighton for 62 years. Loving father of Jody C. Martin (Rick), Dr. Amery J. Creighton (R.D. Allen) and Oris David Creighton (Laura). Devoted grandfather of Graham Weddington, Brad Weddington, Nicole W. Kerner, Sean Gammoon, and David James Creighton and his ten great grandchildren. Brother of Robert A. Creighton (Ann), Linda C. Palazzo (Joe), Jane C. Brady (Tom) and the late Thomas Creighton. He attended St. Peter & Paul Catholic School and Holy Cross High School. During his time at Holy Cross, Oris developed many friendships that endured throughout his life and was a member of the Tiger Band having served as captain in 1953-54. Until his death Oris remained a loyal Holy Cross alumnus. In 1951 his family moved to St. Bernard Parish, where he lived for many years and served as President of the Library Board. In the 1960's Oris and his family relocated to St. Tammany Parish where he remained until his death. After many years in the family construction/heavy equipment business, Mr. Creighton changed course and received his B.A. Degree in English History from the University of New Orleans and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola School of Law. Upon completion at Loyola, he practiced construction law mostly in St. Tammany Parish. As a resident of St. Tammany Parish, Oris and his wife were active in many civic and social organizations and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their home in Folsom. Oris will be truly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings and all who knew and loved him. He will be especially remembered for his kindness, sentimentality, keen sense of humor and a memory in which no detail was ever forgotten and the pride of having served his country as a United States Marine. A Mass of Christian Burial and Interment will take place on Friday, August 3, 2018, at St. Joseph Abbey, 75356 River Road, Covington, LA 70435. Mass will begin at 2:00pm with visitation starting 1:30pm until Mass begins. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation, (www.michaeljfox.org).
