Myra Montelongo Obituary

Myra Morales Montelongo passed away in her home on Monday, July 20th, 2020, in St. Bernard, Louisiana, at the age of 83. She was born and raised in Delacroix Island, residing there until 2005, at which time she moved to Kenilworth. She loved cooking and was always trying to feed everyone who walked in the door, but her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren, never failing to make them laugh and creating memories to cherish forever. Myra was the loving and devoted wife of Edward Richard Montelongo for over 61 years. She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Olivia Morales. She was the devoted mother of Martha Marshall (Thomas), Carmen Ruiz (Kurt), Penny Melerine (Claude), the late Lisa Montelongo, and special niece Lina Gioia (Joe). She was the sister of Philip Morales (Lillian), Diane McNeely (Godfrey), Tony Morales (Patricia), Allen Morales (the late Ruth), and the late Dorothy Balli. She was the grandmother of Jana Fisher (Christopher), Cody Melerine (Korin), Colin Rousset (Lauren), Jake Marshall, Jody Melerine, Casey Marshall, Emma Melerine, and Olivia Ruiz. She was the great grandmother of Owens, Colton and Mila. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to Amanda Videa for her kindness, compassion, and excellent care of Myra. Her devotion and thoughtfulness to our family, especially Lisa, throughout this difficult time made it possible for her to stay in her home during her illness. Amanda will always be a special person in our lives and a member of our family. Also, a special thank you to Cherryl Scott Smith for the amazing job she did and the kindness and thoughtfulness she showed to our entire family. Your wonderful smile and cheerful personality is a welcome addition to our day. Visitation will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA, on Monday, July 27, 2020 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from 12:00 AM - 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Covington, LA. Condolences and tributes can be posted at www.serenitycovington.com
