Mildred Lands Obituary

Mildred Melancon Lands passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Lands. Mother of Donna Robertson (John), and of the late Debbie LoCicero (Joey). Millie leaves 3 step-grandchildren Jordan, Melissa, and Amanda, and 4 step-great-grandchildren Madison, Landon, Linsey, and Owen. Sister of Elizabeth Haydel, Corrine Bouquet, and Gerald Melancon. Millie was preceded in death by brothers, Claude, Raymond, Edward, Eugene, Roy and James; and sisters, Yolande Bolline, Lucille Dolbear, and Gertrude Melancon. Daughter of the late Amelie Porrier Melancon and Dr. Claude Clifford Melancon. She is survived by many loving relatives and friends. Mildred was born in St. James, Louisiana, on September 15, 1933, and lived in Covington, LA since 1998. Millie worked as a Registered Nurse for 42 years. She graduated Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, where she earned a degree in nursing in 1955 and worked in New Orleans at Charity, Touro, and Mercy Hospitals. She moved to McComb, MS, in 1982 and worked in home health nursing, eventually retiring from Pike County Health Department in 1997. Millie’s devotion to serving others led her to be a Eucharistic Minister for St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb, MS, and for St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, LA. She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. In appreciation, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Christwood, Dr. Carin Sanchez, and the staff of Vieux Care and Notre Dame Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, LA, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 1:30 PM. Prayer of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:00 PM prior to Mass. Private interment is at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Millie’s name to a favorite charity; or to St. Anselm’s Ministry to the Needy, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA 70447.
