Marjorie Cougle Obituary

Marjorie Ann Shepard Stone Cougle ascended into heaven on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Mandeville, LA at the age of 97. She was born in New Orleans, LA and as a young person she resided in Mississippi and Florida. She lived most of her life in Metairie and Kenner, LA. After Hurricane Katrina she moved to the Northshore and lived in Slidell and Mandeville, LA.

Daughter of the late Arthur Leroy Shepard and Myrtle May Shepard.

Marjorie graduated high school at Perkinston Junior College in MS. She graduated from Elliott School of Business in Wheeling, West Virginia. She attended LSUNO for two years. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. She was a lifelong member of P.E.O., a troop leader of the Girl Scouts, P.T.A. with various schools in Jefferson Parish (President of the Louisiana PTA in 1965), active with the United Methodist Women (Munholland United Methodist Church, Metairie, LA, and First United Methodist Church, Slidell, LA), and later with the St. Timothy on the Northshore church.

Marjorie was married for 27 years to the late Carson Stone and was later married for 42 years to the late Raymond Cougle.

She is survived by her four children Suzanne Smith (Larry), Carolyn Dike (David), Charles Carson Stone, Jr. (Louann), Sandra Nieto (Michael), her sister Flora Scholtes, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren who fondly called her “Grammarge”. She will be remembered for her outgoing, loving and friendly nature.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at St. Timothy on the Northshore church, 335 Asbury Dr., Mandeville, LA 70471. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and Service will begin at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations to the Girl Scouts in Marjorie’s memory.
