Lucille Ernst Obituary
Lucille Leah Barber Ernst passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the age of 83. Born in New Orleans and a resident of Abita Springs, she was the beloved and devoted wife of Loy Edward Ernst Sr. and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and is survived by her three children Lucille Ernst Brandt Smith (J.W.), Loy Edward Ernst Jr. (Connie) and Nancy Elizabeth Ernst; nine grandchildren Jonathan Brandt (Stephanie), Allison Brandt Samons (Dwayne), Loy Ernst III (Ashley), Elizabeth Ernst Lionnet (Matt), Kathryn Ernst, Meghan Savoie Guy (Michael), Nicholas Ernst (Brie), Ashley Smith Thompson (Ryan) and Preston Smith (Tiffany) and 15 great grandchildren Rosalie Brandt, Vyctoria, Beau and Rhett Samons, Ava and Loy Ernst IV, Gabriel Guy, Remington and Leia Ernst, Alisa McCollums, Amaya and Aubry Turkin, Kaine Thompson, and Brianna and Drake Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Marie Doussan and Edward Henry Barber, and her brothers Henry, Edward and Rodney Barber.
Lucille enjoyed volunteering at Jean Gordon Elementary School when her children were young and proudly served as room mother every year they attended. She never missed her children’s sporting events, enjoyed playing and coaching softball, and was a NORD supervisor at Filmore Playground. Lucille and her husband loved square dancing and were members of The Gold Dust Twirlers Square Dance Club in New Orleans and later of The Square C’s Club in Covington. In later years, she enjoyed volunteering at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Lucille will forever be remembered for her love of life and loving heart.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Drive in Covington on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held in the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 3888 Grantham College Drive in Slidell. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to her caregivers from Passages Hospice and to Serenity Funeral Home for funeral arrangements
