Irene April Obituary
Irene Marilyn Montelongo April passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021 in Terrytown, LA at the age of 82. She was born in New Orleans, LA and resided in St. Bernard, New Orleans, and Gretna.
Devoted Mother of Mary DiBlasi (Mario), Annette Bonvillian, Ann Cuevas, Irene LeBlanc (Roy), and her son-in-law Erroll Prinz. Sister of Manuel Montelongo, Jr. (Henrietta), Emmanual Montelongo (Sally), Edward Montelongo, Richard Montelongo (Margie), and Jacinta Alfonso (Stanley). Loving Godmother of Victor Montelongo. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Cornelia Hayes Montelongo; her children Marie Prinz, Frederick April, Jr., Bernadette April; sons-in-law Kevin Cuevas and Peter Gable; her siblings Frankie Montelongo, Juan Montelongo, Robbie Peterson, Norma Kessling and Bernice, as well as her sister-in-law Myra Montelongo.
Irene married Frederick April, Sr. in 1954 with the family settling in New Orleans, LA raising a family of seven children. Her greatest passion was her business I. M. April Antiques, Etc. which she ran for over three decades in New Orleans, LA.
The family wishes to extend its sincere appreciation for the love and wonderful Care provided by Mr. Jimmie Thibodeaux and special thanks to the associates of Concerned Care Home Health & Hospice.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA 70085 on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM and Mass begins at 12:00 PM. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
