Hazel Sanchez Obituary
Hazel Jane Sanchez passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the age of 82. She was born in New Orleans and lived in Louisiana for most of her life.
Hazel’s childhood was difficult, her family was very poor. One thing people could always say about her life was she was an overcomer. There is a common phrase that people say “Hurt people, hurt people” but this was not true with her. For she had many deep hurts but loved deeply.
Hazel founded and ran for many years the “Agape Shelter” for abused women. She displayed a deep love for Jesus and she touched many lives through her kindness. She was known as a “Mom” to many.
Her favorite things included cooking, hosting family gatherings, fishing, gardening, bird watching and traveling. She especially loved the beach.
She is the grand daughter of the late Rebecca Long and daughter of the late Johnny and Arcy Johnson. Mother of Camille Barnes, Becky Barkley, and Timmy Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Sanchez, children Tommy Sanchez, Tina Cuevas, and one granddaughter Tonya Sanchez. Sister of Raymond Larson and Johnny Johnson. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ben, Bethany, and Rachel Barnes, Hannah Barkley, Kayla and Michael Cuevas, and Katlyn Purcell, her great grandchildren Joseph, Sophia, Carter, Haila, Korbin, Cohen, and Livi, as well as her loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a host of long time friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a brief outdoor Memorial Graveside Service on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2618 Highway 43, South Picayune, MS.
A Reception will follow service, and maps will be given out at the Memorial Service.
