German Morales Obituary

Deacon German Ernesto Morales, age 86, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 1, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eliana Mondaca de Morales. Devoted father of Herman Morales, Louis Morales (Deborah), Gregory Morales (Jody), Maria Morales Eisenhardt (late Floyd), Paul Morales, and Patricia Morales. Brother to Beatrice Morales de Acosta. Loving Grandfather of Maggie Morales, Jason Morales, Erica Eisenhardt, Richard Morales, Gregory Morales, Emily Mire, Richie Mocklin and Morgan Paternostro and also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Deacon Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents Pablo Morales Colmenares and Maria Soleded Alvarado Acosta de Morales, his daughter Pamela Morales and siblings Hernando Morales, Alvaro Morales, Pablo Morales, and Teresa Morales de Bolivar. Born in Bogota, Colombia on April 24,1928, Deacon Ernesto moved to Santiago, Chile in 1951 to attend the Universidad de Chile to finish his studies in Architecture. He worked for the Rockefeller Foundation until moving to Louisiana in 1964 were he worked on such projects as the Rivergate, Federal Building, and The Louisiana Superdome. In the late 70’s he began working at Avondale Shipyard and retired from Northrop Grumman Ship System in 2008. He was proud of his work with Naval projects like the Nimitz-class Super carrier USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 and USS New York LPD-21 (The 9/11 Ship). He and his wife traveled the country extensively while presenting Marriage Encounter retreats from 1979 to 1984. Ernesto became the first Hispanic Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans when ordained on December 12, 1987. While assigned to the Hispanic Apostolate he served many parishes including St. Jerome Church in Kenner, Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Metairie and St. Julian Eymard Church in Algiers. He moved to Covington in 2008 were he served at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs.
