Gary Kathmann Obituary

Gary Kathmann, age 70, of Mandeville, Louisiana, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, January 16, 2021, after a short battle with COVID-19. Gary was born in 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended public schools in Orleans Parish and graduated from Abramson High School in 1964. After high school he immediately joined the United States Military serving in the Air Force. During his two tours of services, he continued his education taking college courses.

After his military service, Gary found another way to serve his country. He worked at Martin Marietta, the Nasa Michoud Assembly Facility, as an engineer, building the outer tanks/booster tanks for U.S. space shuttles. He retired from Martin Marietta in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Bissitt; stepfather, George Bissitt, Senior; sister, Pauline Bissitt; and brother-in-law, Frank Miller.

He is survived by his daughter, Desiree Michelle Kathmann (Rodney Faircloth); two grandchildren, Austin Kathmann, and Aubrey Kathmann; cherished friend, Tammy Shrewsbury; three sisters, Diane Miller, June Matranga (Vance), and Mildred Bissitt (Ellen Mixon); one brother, George Bissitt, Junior; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held, rain or shine, on Sunday, January 31, 2021, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM, in the main pavilion of Fontainebleau State Park, 62883 LA-1089, Mandeville La 70448 (park entry fees still apply).

In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, the family requests that everyone honor Gary by adhering to CDC COVID-19 guidelines to avoid contracting or spreading the virus.
