Gary Fernandez Obituary
Gary Stephen Fernandez passed away at his home on Monday morning December 25, 2017. He was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. He was 62-years-old.
Gary was an automotive and diesel mechanic, who worked at Martin Marietta Aerospace in New Orleans, Boh Brothers Construction, and LSU Medical Center. He retired in 2015 from UNO. Gary had a successful vegetable garden that he shared with everyone and was also known for entertaining his friends and family with crawfish boils at his home.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 15 years, Karen Reeson Fernandez.
Son of the late Emile and June Weinmann Fernandez.
Father of Geno Fernandez and 3 step-children, Kelly Streckfus, and her husband Robert III, Letitia Walker and her husband Adam, and Anthony “Tony” LaNasa III and his wife Shannon.
Brother of Rickey Fernandez and his wife Melanie, Ronnie Fernandez and his wife Kathy, Tana Fernandez Cochran, and Regina LeBlanc and her husband Andrew.
Grandfather of 9 grandchildren Jesse, Ashley, Selina, Kaitlyn, Madison, Brody, Cole, Lucy, and Clara Rose.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Service of Catholic Burial rites at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church on Paris Road in Chalmette, LA., on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at the church from 12:00 noon until service time. In lieu of flowers please send donations to your favorite charity in Gary’s name.
