Emile A. Corne, Jr. passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, age 69, at his home with his family by his side. After a heroic 2-year battle with prostate cancer, he finally succumb to the illness. He was born in New Orleans, lived in the Lower 9th Ward where he attended St. Maurice Parochial School, then moved to Chalmette in the mid 1960’s and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1970. Emile and Sheri had a beautiful life, and a beautiful home they shared with their children and friends, in South Lake Subdivision in Violet. They enjoyed sharing their home and fellowshipping with the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He spent his working career with South Central Bell and after 35 years, retired with AT&T. After his retirement he and Sheri shared a beautiful home in Mishawaka, IN, and had many friends who have become their Indiana family.
His passion was riding his Harley Davidson and meeting for breakfast at Par 3 Diner in Chalmette with his motorcycle buddies. He enjoyed spending weekends on his motorcycle with his wife on the back, as “weekend cruisers”.
Emile leaves behind his loving wife, Sheri Corne. Emile and Sheri married in 1991, separated and divorced as a result of Hurricane Katrina, but they reconciled and have been reunited for the last 6 years. He also leaves behind his son Jeffrey DiFatta, his grandchildren Ethan DeJean, and Gracee DiFatta, and his great grandchild Ethan Jules DeJean.
He is survived by his loving mother Jean Ann Reuther Corne and was predeceased by his father Emile A. Corne, Sr. He is survived by his brother Richard Corne (Lisa), and Julie Wilheit (Randy). He was the Godfather of Nicholas Wilheit, and Scott Corne. Uncle of Jamie Corne Johnson, Jennifer Wilheit, Randy Wilheit, Jr., and his late nephew Ricky Corne.
Also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Emile’s nurse Dorothy Mitchell, and the entire team of Hospice of Mishawaka for the outstanding wonderful care given to Emile.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet, LA 70092 on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 12:00 Noon. Visitation at the church begins at 9:30 AM. Words of Remembrance will take place at 11:45 AM before Mass begins. Emile will be laid to rest at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery on Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting Mass to be held in his memory.
