Dudley Joseph Simmerly, Jr. passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his wife and children. Dudley was born in 1947 to Ophelia and Dudley Simmerly, Sr. He is survived by his wife Lilly Simmerly, and his five children Stephen John Simmerly, Richelle Lajaunie (Bryan), Roxann Simmerly, Robin Simmerly, and Marie Donham (Mike), his eight grandchildren Frankie Broussard, V, Brittany Broussard, Mike Lirette, Nick Lirette, Ava Lajaunie, Mia Donham, Michael Donham, III, and Major Donham, and two great-grandchildren Easton Broussard, and Kass Broussard. Also survived by his sister, whom he treasured Donna LaCoste and his “ Brother-Brother” Karl LaCoste, and many nieces and nephews. Dudley was a dreamer and a man of many talents. He made his way through life as an entrepreneur. He built, owned, and ran many bars and restaurants in Louisiana. He was a world traveler and an artist. He was very generous to his family and friends, and he loved to celebrate. He was the “Spirit”, the jokester, a force of life, a true character. He will be remembered by his family for his giving and kind heart. He loved being on the water, nature, his family, and especially his wife Lilly. He will be dearly, dearly missed and was very loved. The family would like to thank St. Catherine’s Hospice with heartfelt gratitude for the care they gave to Dudley and his family in his last moments. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Augies Restaurant & Events, 6005 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA 70123.
