Dorance Mejia falleció el martes 29 de marzo de 2022 en Covington, LA a la edad de 93 años. Nació en Caicedonia, Valle Del Cauca, Colombia, SA. Trabajando como asistente de farmacia y formando una familia joven, se dio cuenta de que las oportunidades para su familia serían mayores en los EE. UU. Emigró a Nueva Orleans en 1962, con su esposa y sus 4 hijos pequeños al lado. Encontró trabajo como estibador en Nueva Orleans y luego en Kaiser Aluminium Chalmette Works. Cuando Kaiser cerró la planta de Chalmette, se jubiló a la edad de 55 años.
Se mudó a su amada casa de campo en Abita Springs, donde pasó su tiempo cuidando abejas, haciendo proyectos de carpintería y cuidando su jardín. Era un maestro jardinero, ávido cultivador de yuca y arándanos, y apicultor. Dorance era un entusiasta de los colibríes, amante de los perros y disfrutaba de boleros Colombianos y la música clásica. También disfrutó de las giras en motocicleta y bicicleta de carretera, y pasó 15 años recorriendo varios estados del sureste con otras almas afines. Era un trabajador el día de las elecciones, entusiasta del bricolaje, disfrutaba de hacer caminatas y viajar a varios lugares del mundo, así como de regreso a su tierra natal.
A Dorance le precedieron en la muerte su ex-esposa Rosa Yolima Cardona de 46 años, y sus padres Jesús “Chucho” Mejía de Mejía y María Peñalosa Goméz. Padre de Robert Mejia (Janine), Catalina Mejia (Tom Flanagen), Susana Mejia (James Keith Bagley), Theresa Mejia (Steve Counas) y Hector Mejia (Veronica Sharp). Hermano de María Pubenza Mejía Peñalosa, María Foscarina Mejía Peñalosa, Benelly Mejia, el difunto Eucarpo Mejía Peñalosa, el difunto Aristal Mejía Peñalosa, el difunto Wilson Mejía Peñalosa y la difunta María Vilma Mejía Peñalosa. Abuelo de Nicolás e Isabella Mejía. Dorance también deja atrás a su fiel compañero de cuatro patas Tito.
Los familiares y amigos de la familia están invitados a asistir a una misa de entierro cristiano en Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington, LA 70433 el jueves 31 de marzo de 2022. El velorio comienza a las 10:00 a. m. y la misa comienza al mediodía.

Dorance Mejia passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Covington, LA at the age of 93. He was born in Caicedonia, Valle Del Cauca, Colombia, SA. Working as a pharmacy assistant and starting a young family, he realized that opportunities for his family would be greater in the USA. He emigrated to New Orleans in 1962, with his wife and their 4 young children alongside. He found work as a longshoreman in New Orleans and then at Kaiser Aluminum Chalmette Works. When Kaiser shut down the Chalmette plant, he retired at the age of 55.
He moved to his beloved country home in Abita Springs, where he spent his time beekeeping, doing carpentry projects, tending to his garden. He was a master gardener, avid cassava & blueberry grower and beekeeper. Dorance was a hummingbird enthusiast, dog lover and enjoyed Colombian boleros and classical music. He also enjoyed motorcycle and road bicycle touring, spending 15 years riding across several southeastern states with other kindred souls. He was an election day worker, DIY enthusiast, enjoyed hiking and traveling to various places around the world as well as back to his native land.
Dorance was preceded in death by his former wife Rosa Yolima Cardona of 46 years, and his parents Jesus “Chucho” Mejia de Mejia and Maria Peñalosa Goméz. Father of Robert Mejia (Janine), Catalina Mejia (Tom Flanagen), Susana Mejia (James Keith Bagley), Theresa Mejia (Steve Counas), and Hector Mejia (Veronica Sharp). Brother of Maria Pubenza Mejia Peñalosa, Maria Foscarina Mejia Peñalosa, Benelly Mejia, the late Eucarpo Mejia Peñalosa, the late Aristal Mejia Peñalosa, the late Wilson Mejia Peñalosa, and the late Maria Vilma Mejia Peñalosa. Grandfather of Nicholas and Isabella Mejia. Dorance also leaves behind his faithful four-legged companion Tito.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM and Mass begins at Noon.
